I went to the help screen on internet tethering and it said it is available on Iphone 3G or later. It said go to Settings-Network-Internet tethering. I get to network and I don't have internet tethering. Has anyone tried to use this feature??

Preferred Wifi Network Order ...
Is there any way to order known wifi networks, so that the iPhone will connect to a specific network when it is available, regardless of what other networks are visible?
I have a wireless router set up in my office. My office network is faster and more reliable than the campus network. However, the SSID of the campus network is broadcast in a much larger radius. This results in the following situation: In my office, I connect to my office network. As I leave the campus, my iPhone loses the signal for my office network and automatically connects to the campus network. When I return the next day, my iPhone automatically connects to the campus network, the last known network to which it was connected. However, as I approach my office, the iPhone will not automatically connect to my office network, since it is already connected to the campus network. Consequently, in order to get the better connection, I have to manually connect to my office network whenever I return.
I would like to configure my iPhone to automatically connect to my office network when available, despite the fact that it may already be connected to the campus network. Is this possible, or must I manually set the network every time I return to my office?

So my school's got 802.1X WiFi, and you need to login with a username and password to use it. Apps like Safari, Facebook, Tweetie and Score Mobile all connect fine and all work. But, apps like WhatsApp Messenger, Ping!, Mail.app, and IM just stay at "connecting..." or whatever. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but all those apps use push notifications. Any idea on how to fix this?

Data Roaming does not turn OFF when in ...
When you turn DATA ROAMING off, phone turns off data services, and it works in almost all countries except Serbia. I have iPhone 3G ant T-Mobile service plan, but when I go to Serbia, data roaming doesn't turn off, and I must call T-Mobile tu turn off data services for my number, or else I get a large data roaming expenses.
Why is this happening?

Hey, any ideas what I need to do in order to avoid huge bills...I know you can turn off 'data roaming' but is that gonna do the trick? I have an iPhone 3GS with OS 3.1.2, which I have set up to connect to my laptop (intel centrino duo) using WiFi (device to device Ad Hoc connection), encrypted using WEP 128 bit, and ascii password key. I have no problem connecting to my laptop using WiFi, but no internet aware applications (facebook, safari, spotify etc.) are working. I have set up a bridge connection between my LAN and WiFi interface, in order to provide internet capability to the WiFi adapter. On the iPhone under settings, I can see that my iPhone have received an IP address from my ISP using DHCP. iStat shows my ISP IP. Still, I am not able to connect to internet from my iPhone, which works perfectly fine when connected to 3G or Edge. The firewall is inactive for all interfaces on my laptop. There were some MS article regarding certain WiFi interfaces not supporting promiscous mode (or was it the other way around). Either way, I followed the article and disabled the parameter, but still was not able to connect to internet, so I undoed the change. Please help

So the problem is that when I try to add a bookmark in Safari whether I select Add bookmark or Add to home screen, the result is always a bookmark on my home screen.. Haven't got any other problems, just this.

I have not had any problems with my 3G until today. I received a sms this morning and viewed it and exited it. I wanted to view it again later in the day and I noticed that it was gone. So it happened again with another sms name. I also wanted to view it again and it was also gone. I pressed the power and home button at the same time told one of my friends to send a sms, I viewed it waited a few hours and again gone. So when I got home I restored my 3G and asked my friend to send a sms again, viewed it and waited a few hours again and same thing gone. Just wanted to know if there is something I can do besides call apple.

Unable to Connect to previously ...
Ever since Tuesday of this week my iPhone won't/can't connect to any of the wifi networks it used to automatically connect to (home, work and church). Both my laptops still automatically connect to all three with no issue. I've done a software update since, refreshed the network settings and powered down and powered back up with no avail. Sometimes it asks me to join the network, when I enter the password it spins for a while and then says UNABLE TO JOIN THE NETWORK.
Most everyone at work has an iPhone and they have no issues connecting. The Tech guy at work said he had the same issue before and had to have it phone replaced.
Any ideas would be great. I really don't want to go through the process of having my phone replaced.

I have a 3G (with latest OS) configured to connect to my wireless router at home. The wireless encryption in use on the router is WPA2. I am not broadcasting the SSID and have MAC filtering turned on with the iPhone's MAC address allowed in the router.
I had no issue for months. When I enabled Wi-Fi on the iPhone, it connected to my router and never dropped. When I finished browsing/apping, I would disable Wi-Fi in order to increase battery duration, then enable Wi-Fi the next time I needed it.
Now, when I enable Wi-Fi, the router will appear in the list, attempt to connect, and fail. When I manually click that router name, it attempts to connect, then prompts me for the network password, which I enter, then the connection fails. Yes, I'm entering the right password.
It is, though, a bit sporatic. Sometimes, I will just enable Wi-Fi and quickly leave the Settings area and jump right into Safari or some other app. After browsing for a minute or two, the "3G" symbol in the upper-left will change to the Wi-Fi signal strength indicator. It will stay this way for several minutes, then change back to "3G".
No settings have changed on my router in months. The only changes have been several OS updates on the iPhone. I've bounced the router, bounced the phone, and restored the phone from backup. I've told the phone to forget the network and reconfigured it. I do not want to reset my phone back to factory default.
Any help would be appreciated. I would be especially interested in learning what the precise issue is and receiving a solution to the problem rather than taking a shotgun, dart-throwing approach at symptoms.

I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS and last night it stopped loading pages. I've searched through these archives but couldn't find an official solution from Apple, which is highly disappointing. Has anyone else had this happen, and if so, how did you resolve it?

WIFI loosing password ...
I have several networks where my iPhone connects to. The iPhone remembers all the keys of these networks. On my own network (home network) the iPhone keeps asking for the key. The message is that the remembered key is invallid.
When I copy the key again into the field it works for several days and then all of a sudden it stops working again.

Crackling Call Signal and Error Sending ...
Only about a two weeks ago my Iphone has started to have a really bad signal when talking to people from my apartment. I cannot ring out and when people ring me the signal is a nightmare! It even cuts off but the annoying thing is, is that the signal strength and 3g is FULL!!!! My messages usually say sending error failure and i have to turn off the phone off and on to send! Network Freeze Durring Audio Streaming ...
When streaming web audio through the native media player my network connection occasionally freezes and audio stops. When this happens I'll exit the player, which will bring me back to safari, and the page with the audio link won't load any longer. If I wait a while network connection will eventually come back but this is quite annoying.

I'm unsure of how this could have happened but it appears that the range in which my iPhone 3G can pick up my wireless router has shrunk alot.

Has anyone seen this new tip that's come out. Apparantly, if you want to look at a previous page during browsing in Safari, you can just touch the clock at the top of the screen and it moves to the previous page.
I've tried this and it doesn't seem to work,
Any ideas anyone?

I've noticed lately that when I wake my iPhone from standby when it is plugged into a power source (charger or usb on my computer) that the WiFi connection is already there (the phone has been on standby overnight in the case of the charger). I get the impression that the iPhone is maintaining the WiFi connection when it has external power, but have not seen any references to this behavior. I have noticed this since at least 3.1, don't remember if earlier or not.
My iPhone is up to date with OS 3.2.1.

My MBP and my iphone are on the same network, and still they do not see each other. Any idea why?
I don't even get the option to pair. Keynote just does not see the remote.
This is a large university network, behind password, I wonder whether this has to do with it, though both devices are certainly on the network and can access the internet just fine.
As a fallback I tried to set up a computer-to-computer network. Then I could see the iphone, but it never paired.

I don't even get the option to pair. Keynote just does not see the remote.
This is a large university network, behind password, I wonder whether this has to do with it, though both devices are certainly on the network and can access the internet just fine.
As a fallback I tried to set up a computer-to-computer network. Then I could see the iphone, but it never paired.
Any ideas?

My iphone will no longer scan for wireless networks. I am running an airport network via my imac and the rest of the computers, as well as two iphone 3GS phones can see it, but my 1st Gen iphone now gives me the error "can not scan for wireless networks". I have done the Home Power button thing, reset the network settings and no help yet.
Any suggestions?

wifi strength and a low power mode? ...
I have noticed that when I am at Borders, McD, or another free wifi spot, my phone shows 2 wifi bars when sniffing around, then, as soon as I log into one spot, it jumps to 3. Is there a low power mode or something that only uses full bars once you log into one of those networks??

Was wondering if someone could please help. I have had my iphone 3G for 3-4 months now with no problems at all.
All of a sudden a couple of days ago at home it lost my wireless connection and since then have been unable to find it again. My partner has an iphone 3G too but she has not had the same problem. It seems that I am unable to find any wifi networks as I cant even find the one in work!
I have tried re-setting network settings and re-setting all settings but still not luck.
Any ideas?

Hello readers
I am the owner of a 3G iPhone with OS 3.1 and I want to connect to an iBook with OS 10.5.8 or for testing purpose to a Mac Mini with OS 10.6.1. Unfortunately this never works. Either with or without a password to connect the two devices.
Now, when I try it with a PC laptop with Vista Business SP2, the connection works without any problems and surprisingly it does NOT query for a connection password, as it is usual with Bluetooth devices.
Does anyone know a way how to fix this problem or is it unique to Apple to fix this bug in an OS update?

ARRGHH. I am so frustrated. My original iphone 3G worked just fine with wifi at home until i had to exchange it on Sat. for another iphone 3G due to crack in casing.
Ever since i got this new iphone, it will not connect to my wifi at home. I have restored, reset network and all other settings, and restore as a new phone over and over. Have searched for an answer but so far no luck although there seems to be many having wifi issues i cant find my specific case.
mine is a strange one (well i think so). i am able to connect to wifi here at work and use the mail app as well as safari but when i try to use an app that needs to access the network it is unable to connect or collect data.
is there some setting that i need to change to allow apps to access the network at work? it is a bit of a nuisance to constantly change from wifi to cellular and back to make use of the apps

However, as I approach my office, the iPhone will not automatically connect to my office network, since it is already connected to the campus network. Consequently, in order to get the better connection, I have to manually connect to my office network whenever I return.

Quicktime won't launch in Safari ...
Hi,
I'm trying to stream a video from Safari through Quicktime on my iPhone but Quicktime doesn't launch. I get a big code of numbers/symbols/letters then the browser crashes. This has only started happening over the last few days, had no problems with it before.
I've tried reinstalling iTunes, Quicktime and Safari on my pc then syncing the iPhone but that doesn't work.
I haven't tried to reset my iPhone back to factory settings but don't want to do that yet unless there is another way to solve this problem.
Any help appreciated.

So my school's got 802.1X WiFi, and you need to login with a username and password to use it. Apps like Safari, Facebook, Tweetie and Score Mobile all connect fine and all work. But, apps like WhatsApp Messenger, Ping!, Mail.app, and IM just stay at "connecting..." or whatever. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but all those apps use push notifications. Any idea on how to fix this?

Data Roaming does not turn OFF when in ...
When you turn DATA ROAMING off, phone turns off data services, and it works in almost all countries except Serbia. I have iPhone 3G ant T-Mobile service plan, but when I go to Serbia, data roaming doesn't turn off, and I must call T-Mobile tu turn off data services for my number, or else I get a large data roaming expenses.
Why is this happening?
Is it iPhone software issue or GSM operator settings ?

Where is "Forget this network" button? ...
After connecting to attwifi network at starbucks, I want to remove it from the list. I remember using "Forget this network" button in the connection details, but now there is no button. There is only the "Auto-Join" toggle. Where did the button go? It existed in 3.0, but lately I've jumped to 3.1 and now 3.1.2.

Crackling Call Signal and Error Sending ...
Only about a two weeks ago my Iphone has started to have a really bad signal when talking to people from my apartment. I cannot ring out and when people ring me the signal is a nightmare! It even cuts off but the annoying thing is, is that the signal strength and 3g is FULL!!!! My messages usually say sending error failure and i have to turn off the phone off and on to send! I have tried resetting the network settings and resetting the entire phone but nothing!

Network Freeze Durring Audio Streaming ...
When streaming web audio through the native media player my network connection occasionally freezes and audio stops. When this happens I'll exit the player, which will bring me back to safari, and the page with the audio link won't load any longer. If I wait a while network connection will eventually come back but this is quite annoying.

I'm unsure of how this could have happened but it appears that the range in which my iPhone 3G can pick up my wireless router has shrunk alot.

Has anyone seen this new tip that's come out. Apparantly, if you want to look at a previous page during browsing in Safari, you can just touch the clock at the top of the screen and it moves to the previous page.
I've tried this and it doesn't seem to work,
Any ideas anyone?

Since I began using a new router a few weeks ago, I have been unable to connect my iPhone to my WiFi network. The network is still displayed under "Networks" in settings, but it will not use it when I select it. Instead, it will continue using the 3G network. How can I resolve this issue?

I have noticed that when I am at Borders, McD, or another free wifi spot, my phone shows 2 wifi bars when sniffing around, then, as soon as I log into one spot, it jumps to 3. Is there a low power mode or something that only uses full bars once you log into one of those networks??

Can't Update to 3.1 - iTunes cannot ...
I cannot update my iPhone 3G to 3.1 because "iTunes could not contact. . .iPhone server because you are not connected to the internet". iTunes is version 9. For all other purposes I am "connected to the internet". I can contact and download from the iTunes store, I can surf using my browser,I just cannot get to the iPhone update because of this error! I have tried deleting and reinstalling iTunes, no help. The phone works fine.

Very Poor Internet Service ...
Morning all,
I've been having this issue for some weeks now. I've had my iPhone for around 6 months and haven't had this issue before, it started after updating to 3.1 and I was hoping it'd fix itself up after installing 3.1.2 but unfortunatly it hasn't.
My Internet is active in 3G, and usually have full coverage bars and is definitely connected to use the Internet, however, 9 out of 10 times that I either want to check my e-mail, view a webpage or use an app that access the Internet - I just can't get anything to load.
If it's an app (e.g. Facebook and Twitter) no new posts or updates will load and it will either keep loading (or thinking about it - the spinning icon indicating it's still opening the page) until I give up and close the app / page after a long wait, or it'll stop spinning but there's no new data on show. On times with trying to use apps that use the Internet, I'll get a message that there's no Internet connection and persistant error messages, however I am connected to the Internet.
I have either been turning the phone off (pressing the sleep/wake button until the red slidder appears and sliding it) and then back on again after a few moments or turning my phone off using the same method but leaving it off for several hours and then trying again. Doing this doesn't always work, most of the time having done this I still can't get the Internet to work property and either turn it back off for longer or just give up.
On times that I have been able to use the Internet and get apps or pages to load, it's only very limited. I can look at one webpage and then go to use an app and it won't load, and everything Internet related thereafter won't load either.
I still have plenty of MB allowance, so it's not like some Internet plans for your computer that once you've gone over your allocated MB allowance they slow your speed down (if there's such a thing like that for the iPhone lol) so I can only pin it down to something very wrong with the Internet itself.
I have deleted the History, Cookies and Cache on one occassion and that had temporary success but that was for 1 day or so until all Internet related issues started happening once again.
I've never done a restore or a restore from backup as I'm not too sure about the procedure in doing these etc and the after effects (e.g. which one deletes all your data, etc).
I'd like to know from more experienced iPhone users if you think doing the restores would help or fix the issue or if it's more of an issue that it should go back to Apple for repairs and closer inspection.

I only want my bookmarks on my mac moved to my iphone. How does one go about doing that? I found the screen in tunes that will sync just bookmarks, but will that overwrite the few that came with the iphone??

All map related apps no longer work correctly, although the iPhone knows my correct location. For example...
Using the "Where To?" app to find a "Convenience Store" where I am it it suggests one in Austin TX - not convenient as I'm in Australia!
Using the "Maps" app and searching a local bookmarked location it shows a pin on Australia in a world view - a waste of time!
Using the "Maps" app to get directions from "Current Location" to any bookmarked location keeps putting the pins at the same location. Select the "Edit" button shows "Current Location" in both text boxes and is happening most of the time - therefore useless!
Using the same local bookmarked location as a pure search sometimes brings up the world map or works, but the get directions option doesn't.

I had previously been a member of the "2.2.1" killed my WiFi" thread, but after a great deal of erroneous posts on that topic, I have decided to post my own discussion on the topic.
The guidelines for this post is simple. First, this deals strictly with WiFi issues that cannot be resolved with traditional methods. The body of iphone users that seem to be in the most frustrated camp are the ones that upgraded their firmware to 2.2.1 and can no longer reliably connect to ANY WiFi networks.
"Any" is the operative word, because there are a wide range of WiFi issues that one can come across that are traditional networking issues (i.e. WEP, WPA password issues, router firmware, MAC address filtering, etc.). The issue I want to address in this thread is the WiFI issue that seems to directly be related to temperature, AKA the "freezer method" It seems like a growing number of users both 2G and 3G iphone holders have experienced this, and it seems to be a widespread enough issue that it is not a end user issue through neglect or abuse (dropping phone too many times etc).
My experience with Apple support was a negative one, largely because no one that I spoke with was aware of any issues with 2.2.1, and secondly that the repair process was cut short because my water sensor had been activated and they would not continue the repair process any further.
I would also like to add that I am not an idiot. I did not put my phone in the freezer until Apple told me they would not fix my phone. The only way I can figure my phone has been subject to any mositure is from using an iphone armband when I run.
There have been some very insightful posts regarding heat buildup potentially related to faster WiFi performance from 2.2.1 as well as some others. What I am interested in accomplishing in this post is information from users that may have had success with more permanent solutions than the "freezer method" and/or feedback from users that have gotten any direct feedback from Apple or any Apple representatives that have insight on potential solutions. We've not got a home broadband connection at the moment (new house) and I'm wondering how feasible it would be to just use the iphone for internet access.
Would I be able to transfer attachments from my macbook to my iphone to email them out? I'm thinking of jpeg, pdf, etc.
Is there any way of watching something like BBC iplayer on my iphone, but outputting to the macbook screen?

A strange one this: my iPhone used to*, but no longer does, automatically join my home wifi network. However, my wife's iPhone does. I can find no differences in any of the settings on either the phone or the router's home page (there's no guarantee that I'm looking in the right place!). I tried renewing the DHCP lease, but to no avail. I have to use WiFiFoFum, where the WEP password is stored, to manually join every time I wake the phone - not a massive task, but a pain every time the phone wakes up. If anyone can give me an idea where I should look to see if there is a difference between the 2 phone settings, I'd be very grateful. I realise that I haven't given you much to work on so feel free to ask questions!

iPhone Wi-Fi working, but not ...
I have a 16 GB iPhone. (Purchased 12/2008) Over the last month or so I've been having problems with my Wi-Fi. I recently moved out of my parent's house so I bought my own router. Against my better judgement, I purchased the Apple Airport Extreme - WAY overpriced and offers nothing more than a Netgear or Linksys would. Well, my MacBook Pro, my boyfriend's iBook G4, as well as his iPhone, all recognize my network. However, my iPhone only recognizes it about once a week and it only lasts for a few minutes. It sounds like a similar problem that many others have had based on other forums posts BUT the catch is... the iPhone is picking up my downstairs neighbor's network just fine! (Except its password protected and I cant use it lol) Note: Although it recognizes my downstairs neighbor's network, my laptop recognizes 4 within range when sitting directly next to the iphone.
It should also be noted that even when I manually type in my network name and password on the iPhone, it still says it can't find the network.

I have two WiFi networks running at home. One is a WPA2 secured, the other unsecured. If the iPhone is connected to the WPA2 network, it will continue using the 3G Data network to communicate with the cloud. However, if it is connected to the unsecured network, it is fine using WiFi.
The WPA2 network works fine with all kind of other devices. Also, the iPhone has no problem logging into it.
Anyone, something similar?

I've been writing a iPhone client application that consumes a WCF RESTful service. This service is hosted on a windows server 2008 machine and the main method returns JSON.
On the iPhone side I can get the response easily, but the problem occurs while parsing this JSON result.
I got response string such as this:
"{\"BoolValue\":\"True\",\"StringValue\":\"Wooooooow!!!!\"}"
In order to parse this string as a correct JSON string a I need to escape \" character and replace it with double-quotes ("). And that's the problem. I tried to make a NSString with string concatenating it with valid (@"") empty string, didn't help, also tried to convert it to other encodings, didn't help too.
Any advice would be helpful, any link (I've searched a lot), thanks in advance.

3.1.2 update problem and a question ...
For the last couple of days all my attempts in updating to 3.1.2 ended up in an error right at the conclusion of the download process. The download would get to 99% and than quit with a network time out error (even though there is actually no internet disruption on my end). I tried disabling the firewall and antivirus, didn't help.
Is there anything else I might try doing? Alternatively is there any other (official) way to actually download the update outside iTunes? I found an .ipsw file supposedly containing this update (even the file size is a match) but is it safe to do it this way? If it is, how would I go about using it(never updated that way before)?

3G 40 Kbps and 5 Bars ...

I'm not sure if I am connected via my iPhone to the BTHub as the padlock is shut however I can see all the details in the DHCP panel etc-it accepted my password ok but I'm sure the padlock should be open also the signal is very weak but is 100% on my macbook and iMac?
Any help gratefully accepted as I'm a novice when it comes to wifi.

After my upgrade to 3.0, my phone no longer sees wifi networks at all. Even if I try to manually enter an SSID, the phone replies with "Could not scan for wireless networks.". I've tried a restore, resetting network settings, the works.

Since my phone is not under warranty, there is nothing they can do. iPhone and Macbook ad-hoc issues ...
I'm using file sharings apps for my iPhone. When there is no WIFI spot available I should be able to create a WIFI network spot from my Macbook Pro and then connect it to my iPhone.
From the Airport menu I chose "Create Network..." and the WIFI bars will change to a triangle with a computer screen symbol. Safari Issues with Google.com ...
Ever since I cleared my history/cache on my iPhone 3gs it now will display a white screen only when I go to Google.com, but if I type a search into the google search next to the URL, it will turn up fine. In addition to that after I did my search, I tried going from a web search to an image search and the browser acted like I was not clicking on anything.
Keep in mind I can browse any other site with perfection, it only does this with google.
Any thoughts?

Periodically I now get an error on the iPhone stating, "incorrect WiFi password". This often occurs waking up from sleep, but can also happen while in the middle of using WiFi.
If I lock and phone and unlock it, it usually reconnects.
I've tried every permutation of authentication setting on the router. WPA, WPA2 and cipher TKIP and AES to now avail.
On the DLink forums, folks are complaining about this issue with the DIR-615, 655 and 825 routers. But I've seen other threads here discussing this issue with other routers as well.

Only about a two weeks ago my Iphone has started to have a really bad signal when talking to people from my apartment. I cannot ring out and when people ring me the signal is a nightmare! It even cuts off but the annoying thing is, is that the signal strength and 3g is FULL!!!! My messages usually say sending error failure and i have to turn off the phone off and on to send! Network Freeze Durring Audio Streaming ...
When streaming web audio through the native media player my network connection occasionally freezes and audio stops. When this happens I'll exit the player, which will bring me back to safari, and the page with the audio link won't load any longer. If I wait a while network connection will eventually come back but this is quite annoying.

"Wrong password" ...
I recently got my new Iphone 3GS and after trying it out on a WiFi at a friend I took it home to set it up and have some fun with it. However, it seems that it cannot connect to my wireless internet. It doesn't say anything about connection problems, only that the password I enter is wrong. I am 100 % sure that I enter the correct password and I have double checked with my laptop that it is the right one I am using. I can't find any setting that can alter this and I am suspecting it might be the router.
Anyone who might have an idea about what this could be?

I had previously been a member of the "2.2.1" killed my WiFi" thread, but after a great deal of erroneous posts on that topic, I have decided to post my own discussion on the topic.
The guidelines for this post is simple. First, this deals strictly with WiFi issues that cannot be resolved with traditional methods. The body of iphone users that seem to be in the most frustrated camp are the ones that upgraded their firmware to 2.2.1 and can no longer reliably connect to ANY WiFi networks.
"Any" is the operative word, because there are a wide range of WiFi issues that one can come across that are traditional networking issues (i.e. WEP, WPA password issues, router firmware, MAC address filtering, etc.). The issue I want to address in this thread is the WiFI issue that seems to directly be related to temperature, AKA the "freezer method" It seems like a growing number of users both 2G and 3G iphone holders have experienced this, and it seems to be a widespread enough issue that it is not a end user issue through neglect or abuse (dropping phone too many times etc).
My experience with Apple support was a negative one, largely because no one that I spoke with was aware of any issues with 2.2.1, and secondly that the repair process was cut short because my water sensor had been activated and they would not continue the repair process any further.
I would also like to add that I am not an idiot. I did not put my phone in the freezer until Apple told me they would not fix my phone. The only way I can figure my phone has been subject to any mositure is from using an iphone armband when I run.
There have been some very insightful posts regarding heat buildup potentially related to faster WiFi performance from 2.2.1 as well as some others. What I am interested in accomplishing in this post is information from users that may have had success with more permanent solutions than the "freezer method" and/or feedback from users that have gotten any direct feedback from Apple or any Apple representatives that have insight on potential solutions. Again I want to emphasize, please do not make reference to any "router related" WiFi issues including Static IP addresses, etc, those have been covered in a different topic. Thanks in advance.

SSID Priorities ...
At the college I'm at, there's a huge wireless network which stretches across the entire campus. With my Time Capsule, I set up another network so I could control my Apple TV and iTunes via remote. When I leave my dorm, I'm required to connect back to the main campus network. However, when I return to my dorm, It does not auto-connect to my network.
My question is: Is there a way to make one SSID a higher preference than the other on the iPhone?

I recently bought a new macbook pro and 2TB time capsule. After a few problems I got the TC up and running and have my iTunes library on there. Unfortunately although the phone seemed to be doing something when I first connected it to the macbook pro it isn't syncing properly. I am unable to install a new app I downloaded and I cannot drag around any of the other apps already installed on the phone. They show up when I connect to iTunes but it's all kind of greyed out and I can't move anything around. I figure it's because the iTunes library isn't on my internal hard disc.
Has anyone had a similar problem? And does anyone know what I can do to solve this problem?

iPhone not playing some songs ...
After upgrading to 3.0, some of my songs do not play on my iphone. The ablum artwork shows up as does the progress bar. Everything looks normal, except no music. It happens to both downloaded songs from iTunes and songs from my CD Library that I have put on iTunes. I have always used the same data type for all downloading and ripping of my music, so I have eliminated that possiblity. Any ideas?

I thought 3gs was faster... ...
than 3g. I had two phones both on the edge network (as we were out of 3g range). My 3g (with os 3.1.2) had faster internet than my wife's 3gs (v3.1.1). I thought that the 3gs's hardware would allow it to load web pages faster.
Being just a one time test, was this a fluke, or was it the software, or something else?

We have 7mb download speeds at our home. I check the speed via our laptops and indeed it is 7mb. When I test the speed via the iPhone the best it can do is 2mb. Is there an issue with my iPhone or is this simply a limitation on the hardware?

Hi all !
I am trying to connect a device i am building (arduino bluetooth modem)
and an iphone. It is worth mentioning that i don't want to use a computer in between.
Has anyone done this before ?
Is it possible to do on an non-broken iphone sdk 3.0 with the new BT api ?
If not, has anyone tried to use iBluetooth, i.e. integrate his application with the iBluetooth module ?

I would like to send a feature request to apple for our Iphones...
A quicker way to toggle Bluetooth on/off...
I don't want to have to jailbreak my Iphone to gain access to a quick toggle for BT, but this is quite useful when you're using a Bluetooth car kit...
I don't want to let BT always on, as this drain my battery and my phone don't make the day...
Please Apple.... Give us an easy way to toggle BT in the future software release...

hi all, I'm new to the vpn stuff but i have picked up a lot on this lately, i do how ever have a problem with file transfer speeds via vpn
i have set up vpn on my vista ultimate pc, i have put the ports in the windows firewall, and set up a static ip and port forwarding on my sweex's router, also set up DDNS on my router as my internet provider changes the ip once a week or so, Makes it easier to connect than trying to get my public ip every time i need to do vpn
the client end is my iphone 3g, that does connect fine,
if i go to the BBC iplayer on my iphone via my vpn that works, (only way i could think of to get BBC iplayer to work over 3g as it is normally restricted).... i can do what ever i like on the internet via vpn and no problems with speed there.
but when using a program on my iphone (netportal), to access my shared files, they will only download to my iphone at 15 Kilobytes per sec
i have also connected to a FTP server from my iphone via vpn and get about 90 Kilobytes per sec down... which is about right for my internet speed.
I'm on Virgin media 20mb
2486 Kilobytes down
92.5 Kilobytes up (not Kilobits)
does anyone have any idea whats going wrong with this....

iPhone wifi not working ...
Ok so as of two days ago, my iphone has had major difficulties finding wifi networks, let alone connecting onto any of them. I live in an apartment complex and normally my iPhone shows a list of around 20 different networks, but now my phone sees none of them. I can even lay my phone on top of my router, and still nothing. Earlier today I passed by an Apple store, and my phone couldn't even pickup the free wifi there. I have already tried resetting my network settings to default on my iPhone, restored my iPhone, and still nothing.
Anybody else having this problem?

Lately, whenever I click a link to a media file from iPhone Safari, I only get to see its inherent text gibberish or meta file text.
That goes for AudioBoos, or streaming videos, etc.
Why?

"Wrong password" ...
I recently got my new Iphone 3GS and after trying it out on a WiFi at a friend I took it home to set it up and have some fun with it. However, it seems that it cannot connect to my wireless internet. It doesn't say anything about connection problems, only that the password I enter is wrong. I am 100 % sure that I enter the correct password and I have double checked with my laptop that it is the right one I am using. I can't find any setting that can alter this and I am suspecting it might be the router.
Anyone who might have an idea about what this could be?

WiFi under settings is gray (can not be selected). Network, under settings, then general, shows "Wi-Fi, No Wi-Fi"; it is also grayed out. I was running s/w 3.1 but this happened long after upgrading. I am now running 3.1.2 Any Suggestions?

Very Poor Internet Service ...
Morning all,
I've been having this issue for some weeks now. I've had my iPhone for around 6 months and haven't had this issue before, it started after updating to 3.1 and I was hoping it'd fix itself up after installing 3.1.2 but unfortunatly it hasn't.
My Internet is active in 3G, and usually have full coverage bars and is definitely connected to use the Internet, however, 9 out of 10 times that I either want to check my e-mail, view a webpage or use an app that access the Internet - I just can't get anything to load.
If it's an app (e.g. Facebook and Twitter) no new posts or updates will load and it will either keep loading (or thinking about it - the spinning icon indicating it's still opening the page) until I give up and close the app / page after a long wait, or it'll stop spinning but there's no new data on show. On times with trying to use apps that use the Internet, I'll get a message that there's no Internet connection and persistant error messages, however I am connected to the Internet.
I have either been turning the phone off (pressing the sleep/wake button until the red slidder appears and sliding it) and then back on again after a few moments or turning my phone off using the same method but leaving it off for several hours and then trying again. Doing this doesn't always work, most of the time having done this I still can't get the Internet to work property and either turn it back off for longer or just give up.
On times that I have been able to use the Internet and get apps or pages to load, it's only very limited. I can look at one webpage and then go to use an app and it won't load, and everything Internet related thereafter won't load either.
I still have plenty of MB allowance, so it's not like some Internet plans for your computer that once you've gone over your allocated MB allowance they slow your speed down (if there's such a thing like that for the iPhone lol) so I can only pin it down to something very wrong with the Internet itself.
I have deleted the History, Cookies and Cache on one occassion and that had temporary success but that was for 1 day or so until all Internet related issues started happening once again.
I've never done a restore or a restore from backup as I'm not too sure about the procedure in doing these etc and the after effects (e.g. which one deletes all your data, etc).
I'd like to know from more experienced iPhone users if you think doing the restores would help or fix the issue or if it's more of an issue that it should go back to Apple for repairs and closer inspection.

I only want my bookmarks on my mac moved to my iphone. How does one go about doing that? I found the screen in tunes that will sync just bookmarks, but will that overwrite the few that came with the iphone??

Does WiFi stay connected when charging ...
I've noticed lately that when I wake my iPhone from standby when it is plugged into a power source (charger or usb on my computer) that the WiFi connection is already there (the phone has been on standby overnight in the case of the charger). I get the impression that the iPhone is maintaining the WiFi connection when it has external power, but have not seen any references to this behavior. I have noticed this since at least 3.1, don't remember if earlier or not.
My iPhone is up to date with OS 3.2.1.
This is not a problem, just curious if anyone else is seeing this behavior?

Maps and other apps using Google Maps ...
All map related apps no longer work correctly, although the iPhone knows my correct location. For example...
Using the "Where To?" app to find a "Convenience Store" where I am it it suggests one in Austin TX - not convenient as I'm in Australia!
Using the "Maps" app and searching a local bookmarked location it shows a pin on Australia in a world view - a waste of time!
Using the "Maps" app to get directions from "Current Location" to any bookmarked location keeps putting the pins at the same location. Select the "Edit" button shows "Current Location" in both text boxes and is happening most of the time - therefore useless!
Using the same local bookmarked location as a pure search sometimes brings up the world map or works, but the get directions option doesn't.
The iPhone Maps worked great on version 2.

AIM not showing me as Mobile User on ...
Does anyone else have the problem that when using AIM on your iphone you show up as a normal user in everyone's buddylist (not mobile like you do on the blackberry or windowsmobile versions of aim?).
I have found that if i set it to push IMs via SMS and close out of AIM on the iphone it will show me as a txt user on the buddy lists but i want to use the push notifications and while doing that i show up as a normal home user.
Anyone know how to fix this?
