No internet connection connected to ...

Hi,

I have an iPhone 3GS with OS 3.1.2, which I have set up to connect to my laptop (intel centrino duo) using WiFi (device to device Ad Hoc connection), encrypted using WEP 128 bit, and ascii password key. I have no problem connecting to my laptop using WiFi, but no internet aware applications (facebook, safari, spotify etc.) are working. I have set up a bridge connection between my LAN and WiFi interface, in order to provide internet capability to the WiFi adapter. On the iPhone under settings, I can see that my iPhone have received an IP address from my ISP using DHCP. iStat shows my ISP IP. Still, I am not able to connect to internet from my iPhone, which works perfectly fine when connected to 3G or Edge. The firewall is inactive for all interfaces on my laptop. There were some MS article regarding certain WiFi interfaces not supporting promiscous mode (or was it the other way around). Either way, I followed the article and disabled the parameter, but still was not able to connect to internet, so I undoed the change. Please help
