I've been having this issue for some weeks now. I've had my iPhone for around 6 months and haven't had this issue before, it started after updating to 3.1 and I was hoping it'd fix itself up after installing 3.1.2 but unfortunatly it hasn't.
My Internet is active in 3G, and usually have full coverage bars and is definitely connected to use the Internet, however, 9 out of 10 times that I either want to check my e-mail, view a webpage or use an app that access the Internet - I just can't get anything to load.
If it's an app (e.g. Facebook and Twitter) no new posts or updates will load and it will either keep loading (or thinking about it - the spinning icon indicating it's still opening the page) until I give up and close the app / page after a long wait, or it'll stop spinning but there's no new data on show. On times with trying to use apps that use the Internet, I'll get a message that there's no Internet connection and persistant error messages, however I am connected to the Internet.
I have either been turning the phone off (pressing the sleep/wake button until the red slidder appears and sliding it) and then back on again after a few moments or turning my phone off using the same method but leaving it off for several hours and then trying again. Doing this doesn't always work, most of the time having done this I still can't get the Internet to work property and either turn it back off for longer or just give up.
On times that I have been able to use the Internet and get apps or pages to load, it's only very limited. I can look at one webpage and then go to use an app and it won't load, and everything Internet related thereafter won't load either.
I still have plenty of MB allowance, so it's not like some Internet plans for your computer that once you've gone over your allocated MB allowance they slow your speed down (if there's such a thing like that for the iPhone lol) so I can only pin it down to something very wrong with the Internet itself.
I have deleted the History, Cookies and Cache on one occassion and that had temporary success but that was for 1 day or so until all Internet related issues started happening once again.
I've never done a restore or a restore from backup as I'm not too sure about the procedure in doing these etc and the after effects (e.g. which one deletes all your data, etc).
I'd like to know from more experienced iPhone users if you think doing the restores would help or fix the issue or if it's more of an issue that it should go back to Apple for repairs and closer inspection.
