Hi,
I bought my iphone from ebay last week. Brand new and factory unlocked. It was shipped to me in South Africa.
I've been using it for a couple of days now and I noticed that the wifi is very dodgy. It connects 100% to my wifi network (which has WEP64 security and is connected via pppoe to the internet).
My iPhone does see the Wifi network, and joins without any problems. It also keeps the connection to the actual WiFi network without any problems, but it seems to loose the internet connectivity. When I browse Safari on my phone I keep on getting "Not connected to the Internet". Applications that require that internet doesn't work either. It works for 1min and then all of a sudden it says "No Internet connectivity".
It's actually very concerning the number of people having issues with WiFi.
I'm running OS 3.0.1 (And I'm not willing to upgrade due to jailbreak no working on 3.1) I've also read that 3.1 does infact NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM with WiFi.
My question is, how do I go about having my iPhone accessed and replaced. I stay in south africa so will apple replace it here in south africa with a new one, or do I need to ship it back to USA?
Thanks

iPhone 3GS has problems connecting to ...
Hi,
I use my iPhone a lot at work.
We have hotspots which allow me to sign in with my normal internet account.
The hotspot itself has no security so you are free to connect to it, only when you've entered your credentials you actually have access to the internet.
Since the update to OS 3.1 the iPhone doesn't display that popup when it detects it hasn't got any connection to the internet anymore (drop page).
I'm able to login once via safari but when i let my internet session expire i'm not able to do this anymore.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem as well?

What is data roaming? ...
I'm leaving for Israel on Friday and I have an iPhone 3G. I know that people say if you're going away you should turn data roaming off, to avoid a huge bill. I know how to check if it's on or off, so I checked and it said data roaming was off. I'll obviously keep it off, since I'm going away, but I'm just wondering, what exactly is data roaming? Should I keep it on when I'm in the U.S.?

GPS
Hi guys,
I was wondering if Maps uses Internet. Cause in my country 3G internet is very expensive so I was wondering if the Maps service uses internet. If it doesn't does the GPS use? I know that you need to connect to the Internet to download the maps but you can easily do that at home with wifi. I'm just wondering cause I'm going abroad in a couple of weeks so that I'll download whatever I need to from home.

WiFi dropping on "inactivity" (?) ...
Hello:
This issue has persisted on my 3G S as well as 3G and over OS 2.x to 3.0.1: Have you noticed that your WiFi connection will drop after you have loaded an app/content, and used the app for a while (say 30 mins or so)? On closing the app, the WiFi connection will immediately re-connect. My experience is with the NewYorkTimes app over a year now, but it has also been reported with Facebook, and others... Haven't noticed it on any other app. (This is not a wirelss router problem, have tested this close to the router and my other home computers don't drop the connection when side-by-side with the phone, etc.) I have queried Apple support and the NYTs to see if this is a "feature." No reply. This inactivity drop impacts my ability to get new content, since I may have fallen-back to a G or even an Edge connection... I want to re-contact Apple to see if I can get an answer and remedy; your replies would help.
Thanks in advance.

Receiving duplicate push notifications ...
For the past few weeks, I've been receiving duplicate push notifications on my iPhone. I've noticed the issue with both of the push applications I use, Prowl and Beejive IM. Here's what happens:
1) I receive a push notifications about something
2) I acknowledge the notification and close it
3) A few minutes later, I see the same notification again
Is there anything I can do to fix this? The bug was present with iPhone OS 3.0.1 and 3.1, although it didn't always happen with 3.0.1 - it was fine for a while.

App Store updates won't load over WiFi, ...
I have a 16GB iPhone 3G, with the latest 3.0.1 software on it. The phone is not jailbroken.
All Internet access seems to be working fine; Safari works, all my news apps work, any other app that needs to access the Internet works, Mail works, etc...I can even open the App Store and browse the Featured, Categories, Top 25, and Search sections just fine. However, when I click on Updates, it just sits there, saying "Loading..." until an error message pops up, saying, "Cannot connect to iTunes Store". If I turn off WiFi, the Updates section of the App Store will load just fine over 3G or Edge.
Here's the interesting part: if I change the MTU on my router from 1500 to 1492, I can load the "Updates" section just fine. But then some sites have trouble loading on my Mac Pro that is connected directly to the router. My Mac Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, Dell XPS 410, Dell Mini 9, and Palm Pre all have no troubles with the router MTU set to 1500. And my iPhone, as I said above, has no issues, EXCEPT for just the Updates section of the App Store. The Mac Pro, and MacBook Air have just had a clean install not an upgrade done of Snow Leopard, and the two Dells have had clean installs of Windows 7. My Mac mini is running Leopard 10.5.8.
Does anyone have any idea as to why ONLY the "Updates" section of the App Store would not work on my iPhone when everything else on the iPhone and on my network function just fine?
Oh, and in case you're wondering, yes, I have tried forgetting my WiFi network, turned off the phone, turned it back on, and rejoined the network. I have also tried doing a restore of my iPhone. The issue still persists.
Thanks in advance!

Internet pages often frozen since OS ...
Hi,
I noticed I started to have problems with my iPhone since the OS 3.0.1 update - While browsing the net with Safari, or trying to update some pages, the pages/Safari get frozen and could take a while, when so, to come back normal.
The issue seems to be on the 3G network, not on WiFi. The issue seems only related to Safari and didn't notice other issue for the moment. To correct the problem, each time I need to shut my iPhone off and turn it back on. Then Sfari works fine again.
I experienced the issue many times since this update - I never had that issues in the past and I don't consider this as a normal situation.
Anyone having the same problems? Is Apple aware of this kind of issue
Thanks

Wifi "Known Network" Issues ...
Ok so I have read some posts and some deal with variations of my issue. Point 1 before the 3.0 update I only had to select my home network and put in the password to join only 1 time. I could turn off my Wifi and back on and it would automatically join my homenetwork. Point 2 after the 3.0 now I see my network in the list but it doesn't automatically join and when I select it asks me for my "Password" Every Freaking Time. Is this happening to anyone else? This seems to be a widespread problem. Apple please send another update to fix our problems we shouldn't have to "Restore" every freaking Iphone to the original settings to fix our problems!!!!

Macbook pro has slowed considerably and ...
My Macbook pro has slowed considerably and spinning beach ball appears lots recently.
After I installed 10.5.7 it started happening. When I open anything including system prefs and apple apps the ball appears. I'm on 10.5.8 and it seems to be either as slow or slower. Startup is a bit faster now, but it'll go to the beach ball before I even do anything remotely intensive on the system.
My computer is almost 3 years old but I don't install any weird software on it and have 30% of my system disk free. I'm an audio guy and use logic, pro tools and generally keep my computer clean.
I've tried starting another user account to check if its my original user that has the issue, but thats just as slow too.
Please help...
Thanks

WI-Fi just doesn't work ...
Hi.
I have a big problem with the Wi-Fi of my iPhone 3G. The thing is that it doesn't find any network (obviously there is one).
I tested it in my house and in other places also (where the Wi-Fi worked before), and still the iPhone doesn't find any network.
I restored the network settings, no favorable outcomes. Then I did a complete restore (the last resort)... same thing.
How could I fix this? I'm using 3.1 in this moment, but the problem started in 3.0.1 or 3.0, I can't remember exactly.
Thanks in advance.

How to get iPhone Safari to format text ...
My wife loves her iPhone, but there's one thing that's very frustrating: Safari likes to format pages so that only a small portion fits on the screen, and you have to scroll left and right to read the text. If you use a "pinch" to shrink the window, the font size also shrinks so that the text becomes unreadable.
I've tested this with a few very simple HTML pages that I've created, just text with a few and tags, and nothing with a width= or size= attribute. We still have the same problem. Safari doesn't seem to want to wrap the text at all; it either displays a page at a tiny font or in a readable font with most of the text off the screen.
I've also tested these pages with assorted other browsers, including Safari and the other dozen browsers I've installed on this Macbook Pro. All of them automatically wrap the text to fit whatever size window I use, including some very tiny windows. Also, the browser on my G1 "google" phone handles the pages just fine, using my default font and reformatting automatically when I rotate the phone to landscape format so that the text fits within the window.
The only browser I've seen this problem with is on the iPhone. found the Settings screen, looked through the Safari settings and didn't see anything relevant.
Any ideas what's wrong here? Or is the iPhone's Safari just flakey for simple text?

It seems the need for the limit is a bit moot.

WiFi loosing internet connectivity ...
Hi,
I bought my iphone from ebay last week.
Thanks

GPS
Hi guys,
I was wondering if Maps uses Internet.

It is not that I cannot connect, it says "No wifi" "No bluetooth" and is greyed out where I cannot click on the setting for either. I have restored like 10 times and nothing. This is very upsetting. Anyone having this problem or have any suggestions for fixing it?

iPhone and Macbook ad-hoc issues ...
I'm using file sharings apps for my iPhone. When there is no WIFI spot available I should be able to create a WIFI network spot from my Macbook Pro and then connect it to my iPhone.
From the Airport menu I chose "Create Network..." and the WIFI bars will change to a triangle with a computer screen symbol. Then from my iPhone I'll select the new network and it says it's connected with full bars in the settings/wifi. But on the top of the iPhone the 3G-symbol still appears as if it's not connected to WIFI and only to 3G.
And because of that I can't use my file transfer apps for the iPhone without a "real WIFI spot".
What am I doing wrong??

Unable to connect to Airport Extreme ...
I have just got myself an Apple Airport Extreme (AAE) and set it up. My Mac is seeing the AAE fine, but my iPhone is having a little more difficulty. When the iPhone sees it briefly it doesn't accept the WPA2 password and then generally I don't see it again. I have tried turning off the iPhone and the AAE, but it doesn't make any difference. On the other hand it does see the wireless devices of the other appartments around me.
I had no issues with my old Linksys WRT54G.
I am using an iPhone 3G with version 3.1 of the operating system. I have selected the radio mode "802.11a/n - 802.11b/g" in the AAE settings.
Can anyone suggest a solution?

Iphone cannot connect to internet over ...
Hey guys, I've recently come across an annoying issue with my iphone (3g) with regards to connecting to the internet when not on a wifi connection. I recently returned (to Hong Kong) from a trip to Nepal on which i brought my iphone. My phone several times connected to the local Nepal carriers, but I didnt make any calls, receive/send any mail or texts or attempt to access the internet. When I returned to HK however, I noticed at the airport when I once again connected to my own carrier, I received the following message whenever I try to access the internet (even through maps) "Cannot Open Page" Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet. The odd thing is, my phone calls and sms's still work, so my carrier is still connecting, but there is absolutely no data being transferred over the network!! The problem has persisted for nigh on 2 weeks now, and I have tried several reboots of the iphone, to no avail, as well as removing my sim card and re-entering. Any ideas? Was it connecting to the carrier in Nepal? Or is that likely unrelated?

Can't Join Time Capsule Network after ...
Hi,
I have a Time Capsule (TC) that broadcasts my Wifi dual-band. I also have it configured to offer a guest network as well. After updating my iPhone 3G to OS 3.1 over the weekend, I cannot join my main TC network, but I can join the guest network (?!).
I can see both networks in the Wifi settings on the iPhone. I restarted the iPhone holding down the home button and the top button, but no luck. Next, I tried forgetting the main network, rejoined it and reentered the WPA2 passcode. I was still unable to join. At that point, I had the iPhone join the guest network with no issues.
Ideas? Thanks for any feedback. This forum is collectively so helpful. I have answered hundreds of questions by browsing existing posts. This is one of the few times I felt it was necessary to post my specific issue.

Why can I not have a home page on Safari? The only way I see to get out is press the home button - but then that leaves Safari where I left it. Is this the way it is supposed to work? Also, what is the deal with a double click of the home key. That takes me to the keyboard. I am assuming the "Home" key is the button at the bottom? On my Blackberry, I had to make sure each app was closed, or they would continue to use the battery.

WIFI Losing Network Keys ...
I'm using the newest iPhone OS 3.1 (problem occured on OS 3.0). I have a brand new 3Gs model (it's 30 days if that).
My problem (and seems to be problem for a lot of people) is that about every 2 weeks or less my iPhone loses it's network key for my home network (uses WPA2) and I have to manually put it back in (which ***** since it's random letters and numbers and is like 54 characters or more).
From what I have read online it seems to be a problem with WPA2 (every person having problems is using WPA2). Does anyone know of a fix? Or can Apple please fix this problem for good? (I read about the fix where you manually put in the SSID and select WEP and put in a fake key, didn't work for me).
So people think it maybe a memory problem (OS loses Network Keys if connect to too many networks (which it shouldn't be since I have 16GB of memory), and it seems to be with (at least for me and others) a problem with WPA2 (which it shouldn't be because 3Gs is the newest model and should suppose WPA2 without any problems at all).
Does any one know a permit fix? Or can APPLE fix it for good?

iphone not recognized by network and ...
I created a new Profile for Internet Tethering and crashed my iPhone with that. After I deleted the profile and restored the network settings of the iPhone, and installed the former tethering profile again. Since that, my MacBook Pro does not only ignore the iphone when it tries to establish a network connection (before that, the network settings dialogue popped up), it is also not visible at iTunes.
The guys at AppleCare told me to restore my iPhone, which (gladly) did not work, because iTunes gave me an unknown error (-20) while restoring it. I said gladly because the phone can tether with our Windows XP PC, and on the imac of a co-worker, thus it has maybe sth. to do with the macbook pro.
After I deleted the mobiledevice settings and reinstalled iTunes (more than once), digital images pops up when plugging the iphone via USB to the MacBook Pro, but neither tethering nor iTunes works with it. I am at the end of my wits. Does anybody has an idea what I could do besides reinstall the whole OS?

Safari Scrolling inconsistencies in ...
Scrolling with two fingers pretty much doesn't cut it for me. It's jerky and frustrating and quite often, I give up trying to scroll a pane. For me, Apple's scroll design is inconsistent. Scroll the whole page with one finger, scroll a pane in the page with two. That means I've got to remember to switch gears and use a different scrolling method at times.
Additionally, a pane which can be scrolled normally has no visible indication that it may be scrolled. It would be helpful to see some sort of indicator in-page, eg., scrollbars, or somesuch thing.
My suggestion would be to only allow scrolling with one finger, but to do so, activate a "scrolling mode" by double-tapping within the pane to be scrolled. Then, use just one finger to scroll as one normally would. Double-tap to exit scrolling mode.
I realize this would interfere with the double-tap zooming function. I'll leave it to Apple to figure out how to incorporate a scrolling mode trigger with a zoom trigger.
The two-finger scroll could be left in for those comfortable with that, but I'd be surprised if most wouldn't prefer a single-finger scroll throughout the interface.
I feel the user experience would be much more consistent and appealing using such a methodology.

Bluetooth Internet tethering ...
I have been able finally to connect my MacBook via bluetooth to my iPhone 3G S for the internet tethering.
Unfortunately I can not surf the internet. The blue bar comes up and says "Internet Tethering" but no internet pages open. I have tethered via USB with no problems. I can even surf the internet via 3G on the iPhone while bluetooth internet tethering is activated, but still no joy on my MacBook.
Any help here would be much appreciated.

Slow 3G Download Speed ...
I've been having slow download speeds on my Iphone 3G for the 3G connection. I've had the phone for about 2 months and its been perfect until the speeds shot down in last two weeks. I did a scan on testmyiphone.com on my 3G download stream and it ended up being 0.11 MBPS. I did the same scan at the same location with my mates iphone and he had 1.5MBPS so it can't be location. I've tried reseting the network settings and restoring the phone but nothing has solved the issue. Anyone got any ideas what it might be?

Thanks

I cannot connect to any network as my iPhone 3G will simply not find any. I have had this problem since I updated to 3.0 which was the day it was released. I have looked around on the internet and everything I have found and tried hasn't worked for me.
